Free

Poetry

How free would I be if worth wasn’t measured in friendship

My value wasn’t defined by other’s views

My fulfillment not met by earthly dreams

My heart’s needs met by only You

How clear would my vision be if I erased the clutter

How light the load if I let the weights go

How patient the wait if I fully surrendered

How complete the path if I trusted all You told

Matthew 11:29-30

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Step Out in Faith

Poetry

Can I dedicate my life to You no matter what comes my way

Can I make You my life’s purpose

And hold my faith steady when I’m tempted to stray

Can I leave behind all my doubts

Never to look back on them again

Can I follow You and defend Your truth

To the very end?

Can I stop looking at other’s approval

And adjusting myself to gain that win

And instead look only to You

No matter the circumstances I find myself in

Can I trust in You to meet my needs

Before I see them being met

Can I trust Your plan and step out in faith

Without view of any safety nets?

I have a seed of faith

And oh how small it feels some days

But You say a seed is all I need

To move mountains as I pray

So here we go little seed

Show me the way

Matthew 17:20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Doubt, Faith, Possibilities

Poetry

What if…

I never discover a solution

My battles never find resolution

My actions never match my words

My thoughts are always disturbed

I never write a famous song

I never find a place to belong

My worry doesn’t cease

My soul never finds peace

What if…

Promises are fulfilled

I perfect the art of being still

I continue to grow and gain

I find purpose in the pain

I gain insight and faith

I discover new strength

I hold fast to the truth

I stay beside You

What if…

When There Seems to be no way

Poetry

Shake off the dust

Get rid of the junk

Junk that’s been piling on for years

It’s weighed you down

Brought you down roads

That never were planned for you here

Your exit is now

Don’t miss the turn

This new road will be free and light

I’ve heard your prayers

It’s never too late

I’ll turn all this wrong into right

Isaiah 43:18-19

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.  Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Your Thoughts

Poetry

When it comes to things

 I don’t understand

I give them to You

and trust what You say

When worry is tempting me

To care what others think

I remember your thoughts

Are all that matter anyway

Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”

declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God

Poetry

May I never be so high That I fail to look up

May I never be so content

That I stop asking You to fill me up

May this world never answer

all of my questions

That I would stop bringing

all of my wondering to You

May my heart always long,

my hands ever reach,

my eyes always search

To experience You

Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

His Name

Poetry

Seek purity

Rest in His security

You won’t be put to shame

If You trust in His good name

Psalm 22:5
To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
Psalm 71:1-3
In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go;

There is Purpose

Poetry

I’ve known every trial

Understood every temptation

Have risen and fallen

With the worst and the best
I’ve seen His hand

In the cards I’ve been given

I’ve seen He has purpose

In my failures and tests
James 1:2-4

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds,3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Love Without Fear

Poetry

Pain taught me to self protect

And it built its own defense

But now when I try to walk in faith

I’m trapped behind this fence

I push some people away

And hide away with You

Until I’m reminded hiding

Is not what You intend me to do

Exercise faith with courage

By loving without fear

Some of these people I’m turning away

Are blessings You planned for me here

Son of Man

Poetry

He came to me again

He showed me His hand

in the things I’ve been experiencing

He helped me understand

He loves, He frees,

He relentlessly loves.

He heals me

He is bound to no man.  He is subject to no law.

He destroys boundaries, He is above it all.

Revelation 1:14-18

The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”

The Final Call

Poetry

And when He gives the signal

And it’s time for the trumpet to blow

The walls will come down crumbling

And you will see, you will know

All that had been a mystery

All your mind couldn’t grasp

All your pain and suffering

Will lose power and collapse

1 Corinthians 15:52

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

This Path

Poetry

When I feel led by You

I have to follow through

Despite what others may say

It may sound foolish

The path I choose

But I’m following it anyway
I won’t do this perfectly
I’ll deny You

and I’ll fall
But this is the way

I want to go

This path is worth it all
John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

By Design

Poetry

I can find little purposes and create a decent life for myself here.  I can fill up my time, enjoy meaningful experiences, develop fun-filled social circles and excel in many things.  I can dive into a career and pour myself into volunteer opportunities and work toward bettering myself and my community.  Only… those things don’t fully satisfy my purpose here unless I’m doing them with You.

I desire to learn Your promises

To believe the things I cannot see

Embrace a life that looks different

Confidently as I walk it with Thee

Securely trusting and following

This path You’ve designed for me.
