Struggle

Poetry

There’s a little extra pain in my tears

A little more sorrow in my heart

The struggle is getting the best of me

Each day I’m not sure how to start

One breath at a time

I slowly move forward and pray

That I’ll see something, hear a word

That sounds different than it did yesterday

I’ll Wait

Poetry

I’ll wait for you, I’ll wait

Won’t do it as in the past

Won’t go my own way

Won’t jump in too fast

Your eyes see ahead

Your hand holds all the cards

You’ve made and erased all the rules

You’ve let me taste your heart

So I’ll wait, I’ll wait for you

Lest I err in my own way

I’ll take it slowly, let it unfold

And keep waiting on you today

Known and Loved

Poetry

You know exactlywhat I need in every way

You foresee my life

And You guide every day
You use my weaknesses

To accomplish Your will

You change my heart

And cause me to be still
I can’t see You with my eyes

I’ve faced many doubts

But every time I give up

You grab hold and turn me around
That’s how I know

and why I believe

That’s how I know

You see and love me
Isaiah 49:16
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
Luke 12:7
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Here with You

Poetry

Here I am safe

Keep me in your arms

As I clean out the messes

That cause me nothing but harm

Here I am loved

Let me never forget

As I keep walking further away

From a broken past and regret

Here I am hopeful

Fix my gaze on You

As I search to know You more

Align my thoughts with Your truth

Luke 4:32

They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority.

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Trust You not Me

Poetry

There are times we come to a place

Where a decision needs to be made

Our natural self leans a certain way

But You tell us to stop and wait

Past my inklings

Past instinct

Past impulsiveness

There’s your voice I think
When I don’t follow me

But I wait and trust in You

You give me the answers

And show me what to do
Psalm 23:1-6
1  The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

4  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6  Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

He is Sufficient

Poetry

Sometimes all you want to do is fix it.  You want relationships to mend, illnesses to heal and circumstances to change.  You want a miracle.  But a miracle doesn’t come, the relationship doesn’t mend and the illness doesn’t heal.  And you are left in the wake of unwanted circumstances that seem to have no chance of recovery and your footsteps are heavy as you walk and wait for an answer.  And the Lord says these are the times His grace is sufficient.

My grace is sufficient in your pain

My grace is sufficient in death

My grace is sufficient in your weakness

My grace is sufficient in brokenness.

My purpose for you will still be accomplished

although it doesn’t look the way you think it should

My purpose will supersede your desires

I’ll work this all out for your good.

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”

Get Higher

Thoughts

Several years ago I had a dream.  In my dream, I was kind of hopping through the treetops and I could see everything going on down below from a higher vantage point.  What I saw below was like an obstacle course.  It was very very busy and noisy.  There were swinging ropes and tunnels and mazes.  It was nighttime but bright neon lights were everywhere.  It looked exciting and fun but also potentially dangerous.  And as I was looking at it all, I wondered how I would ever know which course to take.

Some dreams, and I have a ton, just stick with me and that has been one of them.  And often times I can see the parallels between my life and that dream.  It is so full of activity and choices.  It is full of possibilities, both good and bad.  But when I am walking the ground down below and all I can see is the obstacle right in front of me, I lose sight of the bigger picture and have trouble deciding which way to go.  So maybe that is when I go to the treetops.  Get up higher to see the bigger picture.  Get to a place where the noises are quieter, the lights are softer and the perspective is bigger and clearer.

So how do I get to the treetops?

Mark 1:35

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”

Psalms 91:1

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Isaiah 55: 9

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.…”

Isaiah 30:21

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Listen

Poetry

Tune your ear to hear Me

And disregard all other noise

I have something different to say

I bring wisdom, encouragement and joy

Listen not to the competing sounds

They hinder, hurt and distract you from me

Give them no room, no voice in your heart

But fine tune your life to hear only Me
