Sing Out Loud

Poetry

1st song I wrote – 2002

You will know a tree by its fruit

Let the little children come to me

Open your heart to the Son of God

Jesus said follow and believe

Do unto others

As you do to yourself

Be patient, kind and long-suffering

Hope in the Lord oh my soul

Be thankful for the cross you hold

Sing out loud from my heart

Giving thanks to the One I know

Utterances I do not understand

All my love given to the Son of Man

Be still and know that I am God

I am working all things for your good

I am merciful, gracious and kind

Do not judge others, vengeance is mine

God in the flesh You came to be

You gave up Your life to die for me

How can I give You all I owe

When You deserve more than I’ll ever know

Sing out loud from my heart

Giving thanks to the One I know

Utterances I do not understand

All my love given to the Son of Man

I Lay

Poetry

My weights are heavy

And my words are insufficient

To bring about any change

So in Your arms I lay

Unworthy of this love

You’ve so freely given

I shackle myself to shame

You still hold me and promise

To give me a new name

From trapped to freed

Ashamed to forgiven

Weighted down and burdened

To a child of God

My thoughts alone can’t bring this change

So under Your wings I lay

Beautiful You

Poetry

I’ve been a beggar

A thief, a liar at war

An addict, pathetic

Unable to take any more

I’ve been arrogant

Proud, a heavenly soul

Following the rules

Perfecting my show
I’ve been in love and lust

Unable to focus or see

Distracted by beauty

High, soaring and free
I’ve known poverty, loss

Lived without a home

Caused pain and grief

Been lost and left alone
I’ve had all the answers

Thought the rules didn’t apply

I’ve blamed everyone else

And lived a disguise
I’ve been fragile, insecure

Done things wrong and had regret

I’ve gained confidence

Had successes, a love I won’t forget.
These colors, these chances

These dances full of grace

Designed for each one of us

To help us somehow see His face
Each life custom ordered

With specific trials and tests

Meant to teach us, help us learn

So we can then turn and teach the rest
Don’t hide who you are

Or the trials you’ve been through

It’s made you who you are

Imperfectly beautiful you 💗

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

1 Corinthians 9:22

“To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.”

Armor of Faith

Poetry

I found myself on a battlefield

With shots being fired all around

With bullet wounds and bleeding

I crumbled to the ground

Then I saw a wall the Lord had built

Which He lovingly secured me behind

He had been building day and night

My unseen architect all this time

Behind the wall He gave new armor

Loaded me up with truth and insight

Taught me to trust His instruction

To give me victory and win the fight

Ephesians 6:10-17

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Weight of Sin

Poetry

I have seen the heavy weight of sin

I’ve allowed it to pull me in

It’s blinding and alluring

Unrelenting and dangerously bold

I chased it and I needed it

Until it grabbed a hold

It started to pull me under

Till I couldn’t come up for air

And everything around me

Crumbled with despair

I was left in the wake

Feeling empty but not alone.

For then is when I saw it

Jesus sitting on His throne

I’ve seen sins power and destruction

Felt my heart blinded and controlled

Seen devastation in life

When I don’t believe and let sin unfold

But He’s offered me freedom

He has overcome

He defeats the darkness

And He’s the Only One.

To rescue, redeem and set me free.

To break all chains and bring me peace
