Spirit vs. Flesh

I thought you were long gone

Thought you were destroyed

Thought you died years ago

When I first came to know the Lord

But giving into you

Made you stronger

Giving you attention

Made you hold on longer

Always seeking your own satisfaction

While pretending to be my friend

Yet every road you’ve chosen for me

Has led to bitter ends

So once again I denounce you

Your wicked ways and selfishness

I’ll nourish my Spirit to overcome

This battle with my own flesh.

Colossians 3:5

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

Galatians 5:16-18

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.

Turn to Me

People will let you down

They’ll disappoint you, fail you,

misunderstand, mistreat and leave you.

And when they do, turn to Me.

Turn to me in your hurt,

your sadness, disappointment and fear.

Turn to Me to learn forgiveness

To gain understanding

Turn to Me to be healed.

I forgive and love like no one else

I’ll teach you to do the same

It won’t always make sense

but My way is the best

not just for you

but for everyone here.

Are You There

Maybe I’ve done life all wrong

Maybe it’s been my fault all along

Maybe I was a person I couldn’t even see

And the fingers I pointed should’ve been pointed at me

God are You there

God do You hear

My cries and my plea

To rest beside thee

Thoughts steal my joy and plummet my soul

To a place where my heart cannot hear Your voice

I search to find stillness amid the chaos

But keep getting lost in the noise

God are You there

God do You hear

My cries and my plea

To rest beside thee

Take me

in Your arms

Where my heart

shall feel no harm
